How important is Link Building
So what is link building? Link building is the process of getting other websites to put a hyperlink on their website that links to yours. The more of these you have the more relevant your website becomes. The more relevant your website becomes the higher your rankings will be.
Many companies’ websites already have Meta Tags, Site Maps, Keywords, content related to SEO, Coding for Google, Bing and Yahoo, Google Analytics and even some have links on their website that will take you to their Facebook, Twitter and other social media websites. These are all good. Some have even chosen the correct keywords to optimize for. But what do you do if you are still not getting that top spot or even on the 1st page of Google. Link Building.
How important is Link Building? That is a question I am often asked. The simple answer is VERY! The next question I get is why and how does it work. In the highly competitive market of SEO you will find that most of your competition is also doing SEO to try to gain an advantage over their competition. As we all know the higher your ranking is on Google the more phone calls, leads, appointments and sales you will get. So what makes your website stand out over another’s? Link Building and Content will get your website more noticed than another’s. Google’s algorithm looks for other websites that have your link on their webpage. This shows Google that you are relevant. The more relevant you are the higher your ranking will be.
Types of Link Building:
Directory Links- Directories are companies like Yellow Pages, Insider Pages, Manta, Angies List, Google, Yahoo, Bing, Yelp, Merchant Circle, Linked In, Super Media, Yellow Book and many others. Most of which you probably have never heard of. These are very time consuming and provide some benefit mostly to companies that serve a local area.
Social Bookmarking- Social bookmarking is defined by Wikipedia as a method for Internet users to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet. If you have ever posted your link to one of your blog articles with Digg you have social bookmarked it.
• You may get a backlink if you bookmark a page on your site or if someone else bookmarks your site
• Bookmarking a page or a blog post can help you get that page indexed in Google faster
• Most Social bookmarking sites will allow you to use keywords or tags to help optimize that site
Contextual Link Building-These are links found in Article Submissions. For example, there are many websites that allow you to write articles such as articlebase.com. When someone posts a comment about your article that is a contextual link once they put their link on that page. It also adds content to your website.
There are two ways of getting your links and this is very important. One way is by doing it manually and another way is by a submission service. Google frowns upon using a submission service. Make sure you always do your links manually. You will get better results and you will always know which links you are being submitted to. By using a Directory Submission service you will pay very little for a lot of links. Sometimes in the thousands. The problem is that you don’t know where they are submitting them to. You also will be surprised to find out that most of the links will not link. These companies only submit them to the directories but will not guarantee they will link. Most importantly you need to know that Page Rank is also very important. The higher the page rank of a link will increase your ranking. It is better to have a 4 verses a 3 or a 7 verses a 6. Most Directory Submission companies will submit most of the links to your site with a page rank of Not Available, 1’s and 2’s. This will not help you and set you back months if not years.
